Princes in the tower by emmav Princes in the tower by emmav
One of my favourite historical stories, and one of the saddest. I listened to some emo-film soundtrack whilst colouring this and my mind reeled with the reminder of how many sacrifices have been made in this country's past to get us where we are...many of them unwilling.

Kate Brown did a fab comic based on the story in the first Best New Manga anthology (or was it the second?). It's a desperately sad point in our history...and still unsolved in my eyes.

Aye, who knows the truth of what happened? But either way, their story is very sad.

It's so sad the things that happen when rulers let greed and lust for power consume them...

It's a wonderful piece of art, just like everything you do :)

As the bones discovered couldn't be DNA tested properly, I secretly hope they ran away in lived as something pleasant like merchants or healers.

I love the lighting and the ever so pretty gradients. Im also super impressed how you made their hair look pretty instead of the curly mess everyone liked to have styled in those days :meow:

Yeah, I have my own theories (dont' we all), but I'm pretty sure that Richard at least was taken out of the tower....and if Edward died there, it was either from the disease in his jaw, or a mercy kill. That's my theory anyways ^_^

Wow, they look spiffy, don't you think? :aww:
Seeing as you're familiar with Hamlet (the best of the Shakespeare mangas in my opinion, really enjoyed it!! :star: ), you might want to try reading "Richard III", the princes are characters in it! :D

haha, funny you should mention Richard. I'm actually a HUGE fan of Richard as a historical character. If you look through my pages here you should find some test spreads for the Richard III comic I want to draw/write one day! ^_^
he's utterly wonderful and much belied by Shakespeare and the Tudor historians, in my opinion.

Awww, thanks so much for the Hamlet comment - that means a lot ^_^

Also a fan of this historical moment. What the human race is capable of makes me very sad sometimes.

Lovely piece of artwork, good colours.

Actually not sure why there is a smilie instead of a P in pretenders, but pretenders is what I meant to say.

ooo, I am doing a bit of work on the Princes at the moment, although much of it revolves around their legacy, that is the ';pretenders' that came after them.

I really like the picture though. Do you think that you will use it for a historic comic??? ^_^

Ooh, really? How fascinating! So you're working with henry and the Tudors? I want to hear more!

I am trying to put together a ridiculously ambitious pitch for a GN series following the story of Edward IV and Richard III - as I'm pretty obsessed with the Yorks. This is the pic than inspired me to do something about my obession, haha!

I don't know if anyone will be interested in publishing something like this yet, but I'm certainly going to try!

Well, my MA Thesis is going to be on Arthur Tudor (Henry VIII brother) This means that I am reading loads on Edward IV and the princes, especially Edward V because I can compare their educations. I also have to know as much as I can about the pretenders because of how they effected the course of Arthur's marriage negotiations. I have been researching this for about three years now, and I am about to write it all up, it's pretty scary so I can see where you are coming from with your own project.

I would do it though. I will buy it if it was ever published. It will be pretty awesome to see some history in comic format.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! hahah. Bad woman!

Seriously though, it's weird how we almost think of it as just a story, and then we remember 'shit - that actually happened'. Those poor, poor boys; for no real reason. I'm feeling an itch to do a Richard III comic...
