Okay, with all this older stuff I'm posting up, I should at least put something more teaser-like it ^_~

This is a spread from my upcoming Oni book, Avalon Chronicles #1, written by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir. It's a really fun book and I can't wait to share it with you. Hopefully it will be release later this year. Obviously the pages still need lettering, so this is just a preview :)

I'm working to an Oni template here, quite a small one.
3150 x 4613 pixels. About 5.2 x 7.6 inches. Though it may actually be printed larger.

so if i work i should draw first at what size, and dpi is all that matters? but working big can help get detail drawn easier

Oh, I see...you're wondering what size to work at?

Well it depends on so many things. We all work differently. If you're self publishing, think about what size would work best for you to print at, for instance. When working for a publisher we often have set templates, but when you're working indedpendently you get to choose what works best for you ^_^

DPI - you want 300 or higher. I work at 600dpi and I ink at print size in manga studio. but, if you prefer inking on paper before scanning and resizing, you may be better drawing and inking larger than print size and scaling down for tone work, as you say. A common choice is to work at A4 for an A5 print out. (UK paper sizes)

But yeah, for the basics: work at 300 dpi or higher. for digital inks you can ink at print size, but for manuals, you're better inking at larger size and then scaling down for print. ^_^
Hope that helps - good luck!
